"HEAVY PSYCHE/PROTO-METAL" 1972 ENGLAND

“Primitive man” is the standout track off Jerusalem’s S/T 1972 album. Slow. Heavy. Brutal. A desperate form for primordial nostalgia emerges. An incurable craving for a time without the lies, deceit and war that come with “civilization”.

“Primitive man, you knew what life was / Primitive man, you can tell us because / Primitive man, respected the earth’s trust / Primitive man, you knew only love.”

With all the brutal  heaviness and caveman simplicity of Blue Cheer and Pentagram, JERUSALEM emerge from the mighty year of 1972, but could just as easily exist now for few groups have ever been this ahead of their time. Of course… that has a lot to do with why they never “made it”.

Jerusalem was discovered by Ian Gillian, who produced their only s/t album and a single: “Kamikaze Moth,” backed with the track “Frustration”. They were very much a “live” band, and while many other rock bands wanted their audiences to sit down and listen, Jerusalem were all about making their audiences stand up and rock the fuck out.

They toured throughout Europe and shared the same stage as Black Sabbath, Deep Purple, Uriah Heep and Status Quo. They also played at some of the major festivals in Europe to audiences of 50,000+ and usually sent people into a stoked-out fury!

“When the night comes I must go… loneliness has become my foe”
